After nine months of hard work from DFC's after school group, known to the kids as "the social club", we celebrated our progress at "Parents' Night". The event, which I had been putting together for the past few months, included all the kids, their parent's and/or grandparents, volunteers, and members of other local non-profits and volunteer organizations. We printed special invitations, ordered cakes and snacks, and made a presentation for the parents that was projected on the wall of the community hall in Kurland. The presentation was a chance for the kids of the group to share all the projects they had done with their families.
I was overwhelmed with the responses from everyone who attended - parents who told me how much they thought their children were benefitting from the group, guests who were impressed with the organization and behavior of the group as a whole, and of course the children who had a great time eating all the extra cake. I was so happy with the way they presented themselves and it was wonderful to see how proud they were of all the success they had accomplished.
